Stinky Cheese Studio
I’m fascinated by rocks, dirt, history, and process, and most of all, I’m obsessed with clay. That river mud between your toes has taken an epic journey of transformation through geologic time, and it will speed through another one in your kiln, in the blink of an eye. I harvest wild clays and minerals from locations that are meaningful to me, and hand-process them for use in my studio practice. The story of Earth is told in layers, and I study these archives to learn the language of geology and to speak with the sediment.
I work in miniature scale sculpture and functional pottery, creating or drawing diorama-like scenes to illustrate the absurdities I see in our relationships, like alternating power lines and trees pruned into ridiculous shapes, a house in a clear-cut forest with a tv on the Nature Channel, or a garbage truck delivering Amazon packages straight into your trash can.
Pottery brings intention to our shared human experience across generations: between the maker, the beholder, and all the potters and beholders-of-pots that ever have been and will ever be. Pottery is part of the grand conversation, and it holds your coffee, too.
